Asadong Matwa: Kapampangan Style Pork Asado-I got this recipe from my Auntie in Pampanga who is one of the best cooks I know. She learned how to cook this dish from her Lola, and now, I’m so fortunate to know how to cook it myself (Thanks Auntie!) After a few hours of cooking up a rich tomato based sauce and searing off the meat, my Asadong Matwa was finished. Truly Kapampangan, truly Manyaman.

Review: Our first documented food hunt was a return to our favorite doughnut shop in New York: the Lower East Side’s Doughnut Plant on Grand Street. We had previously encountered these doughnuts and fell in love with the coconut glazed and cream-filled square doughnut. It’s still our favorite, but what kind of foodies wouldn’t try something new? Afi tried the PB&J doughnut, while Anna had the blueberry. Afi liked how much texture was in her doughnut: there was a crunch from the peanuts on the glaze. There was also the sweet peanut butter glaze combined with the tart jelly filling: a surprisingly delicious combination. Anna was still captivated by thoughts of the coconut doughnut, so the blueberry didn’t really register.
Recommendations: The coconut doughnut is a MUST, but you can’t go wrong with any of the other creations here.
In summary: At $3 for a huge and unusually yummy doughnut, these are worth the occasional splurge. These doughnuts will make you forget all about Dunkin’ Donuts. Perhaps you’ll become a bit of a doughnut snob.
